Why we run
On September 6, 2005, Lino Lakes Police Officer Shawn Silvera was killed in the line of duty while assisting in a high-speed chase on I-35W. Officer Silvera was struck by the suspect’s car after deploying stop-sticks. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Shawn made the ultimate sacrifice while serving to protect the citizens of the State of Minnesota. In 2006, a portion of I-35W was designated as “Officer Shawn Silvera Memorial Highway.” The web page, www.shawnsilvera.org, was created in his honor and gives information on the Officer Shawn Silvera Memorial Run that is held every August. The event is jointly held with the Chain of Lakes Rotary, the Lino Lakes Police, the Lino Lakes YMCA and the City of Lino Lakes’ Park and Recreation.
